For the last month i have been singing happy birthday to myself, wondering when my chance would actually come! the day is finally here! mummy wants to remind me of the traumas of childbirth and how i should be forever grateful and obedient to her. i don't care. i just want to play with my new toy car that my aunty demi got me. i had a mini celebration with my cousins on saturday which was a lot of fun.

today mummy says we are going to have a fun day out in the park doing all the things i love to do! i don't care. i just want to play with my new toy car that my aunty demi got me. mummy also says that i will be getting my present from them tomorrow because i'm little and don't know the difference anyway. i don't care. i just want to play with my new toy car that my aunty demi got me!

last night mummy & daddy introduced me to my new big girls bed. i was quite excited - it was the only time i let go of my new to car. i got ready for bed and climbed into my new bed & even asked for my teddy bear. once mummy and daddy thought i was settled i decided to do the thing that the new big girls bed allowed me: jump out of bed and walk happily to the living room. mummy marched me back to my room. i marched back out of the bed when she'd left. so fun. mummy then had a great idea - she'd jump into bed with me and cuddle me recreating the happier moments of the night i was born (the moments after she'd recovered from the shock of labour and had come to terms with the fact that my hair was NOT following with the after-birth). i then said the c - word and she felt the world crashing around her. "Mummy i want to drive my car." No was the swift response. A "yes", "no" tennis match ensued till mummy just decided i could lie in bed with the car, not push it around. i pushed teddy out - he's for babies! big girls sleep with their pink cars in bed!

so today is my birthday - mummy woke up singing to me and i told her "no mummy, no happy birthday!". lets start as we mean to go on. this year, i'm going to assert my authority. i started the day by asking for my car. mummy wanted to get all cuddly and emotional - i just said "no, mummy! driving in my car!" . ultimately, i don't care. i just want to play with my new toy car that my aunty demi got me!

ok...so i got to attend my mummy's babyshower a couple of weeks ago. it was....interesting. i thought it was all about the baby and everyone gushing about how sweet and gorgeous this new little life was going to be and generally being lady-like. mummy even dressed in a flowing maxi dress that was made of  the softest silk. she seemed to be in an ethereal, earth-mother mood. we arrived at my aunty's home and my preconceptions were quashed. i'd fallen asleep in the lull of the drive, only to be rudely awoken by the blare of Nigerian music as my mum made her "grand entrance" to her special party! she danced backwards, she danced forwards, she stuck a leg out and she she hid it again under her dress. all my other up-until-then respectable aunties suddenly joined in the madness and there was much wiggling of hips and gravity defying movement.

i simply looked on, stunned and trying to make sense of what was going on. as my aunty's came to give me cuddles i cried as though i didn't know them - to be fair, i clearly didnt! i'm sure some of those moves were illegal.

daddy! look what mummy was doing!! someone did warn her she might go into labour with those moves. she just laughed!

after they'd danced, they played some games. WW3 nearly broke out as the 2 teams they were in had a tie on one game. they had to come up with a list of songs with the word "baby" in them and there were some pretty suspicious song names in there!  one team had "baby, baby, baby oh" and "oh baby baby baby" - when quizzed it turned out it was the same song! mummy's team smelled a rat and demanded that all their answers be verified! they still tied and i watched as my 2 party-organising aunties were mobbed by 2 groups of women determined to win this game! even the tie-breaker was contested! somehow we managed to move on with no bloodshed or early labour from the 4 baby bumps in the room!

incase you are wondering - there really were other people there - mummy just said i wasn't allowed to put their pictures up - they all have incriminating evidence of illegal moves. she said our blog isn't making enough money to deal with the lawsuits that may follow from all her friends and cousins.

some very good advice mummy got:

1. don't forget about baby #1 when this new one comes, she'll still need you.

2. all aunties were encouraged to bring me a gift when they come to see baby so that i don't feel left out

the rest didn't concern me so i dont remember - something about not neglecting dadddy, ummm....asking for help..., being an all round superwoman etc.

mummy really loved the shower, organised by my aunties: segs the super beauty blogger, ozi the super fashion stylist, and tinashe who has no website yet but is a super aunty who always makes it round in time to change my dirty nappies (i  always greet her at the door with "aunty, i done a poo poo" - much to her delight...not).

mummy was in tears when we got home because of just how kind and generous everyone had been. she kept saying "i love them all!". hmmm...last time i heard her exclaiming such love was when she was high on gas & air during her labour with me. were they all high on gas & air?!

anyway, i need to buy me a video camera and be prepared for the next baby shower! lots of bribery material....aha!

ok...there's no getting away from it...we've been awol! mummy has been in "nesting mode"  for the last 5 weeks and been de-cluttering the flat like it was an olympic sport. it all began with her watching "the hoarder next door" on channel 4. she envisioned all the fabulous things she's amassed over the years slowly taking over the flat and us disappearing in an albeit lovely, but suffocating pile of Vogue magazines & boxes of must have shoes..  initially this process consisted of generally moving items from one room to the next. in the end mummy had to call in the big guns and got vacuum packing some of her clothes....(she will not be fitting into any of it anytime soon), and chucking out a whole lot of things we just don't need!

once safety had been restored, mummy moved onto sorting out my room. i have been told i'll be sharing this room with this new baby...i am so unbothered. mummy went into full interior designer mode and has been updating the furniture and coming up with all kinds of exciting room arrangements. daddy just walks into the house and says he's glad to recognize mummy & I, as we are the only thing that seems to remain the same in our house! just today he's come home to find mummy busy changing a mirror from a colour she painted it only last week. we'll share pics with you once the nursery is done...should be very shortly as baby is nearly here!

so...part of the joy of de-cluttering is re-discovering things you haven't seen in a while. that's what mum said as she happily slipped on these heels.... she's currently banned from wearing heels....
